In 1848, a group of women met for tea and discussed their discontent with the limitations placed on women under America's new democracy.
That tea is seen as the beginning of the women's rights movement.
August 26 of each year is designated in the United States as Women's Equality Day commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment which gave U.S. women the right to vote.
The first women's rights meeting in the United States was held in 1848, after several decades of a quietly-emerging egalitarian spirit among women - but did you know that it still took over 70 more years before the 19th Amendment would pass?
This is a Presidential election year. For many of us, there are currently no candidates who particularly rock our boat. Nevertheless, I beseech each and every woman reading this blog to honor the suffragettes by voting on November 4. Whether it be a party candidate or a write-in ..... CAST YOUR VOTE.
