For Valentine's day, I prepared a special dinner for our family. My guys are pretty good about indulging my creative side and appreciating the china & crystal. . .and new & unusual foods. A new kitchen gadget caught my eye last week and I thought it would be fun to prepare a meal with it as the focal point. The result was a chocolate fountain of fondue and dippers. Fresh fruit, cookies, nuts, and waffle bites were the dippers and they were delicious coated with creamy, warm chocolate. Fondue was a food from the 70's; it had been years since I had made it. The chocolate fountain was a new variation of an old theme. The recipe is simple:
Chocolate Fondue
11.5 ounces Ghirardelli bittersweet chocolate chips (dairy-free)
11.5 ounces Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocoate chips (dairy-free)
vegetable oil
Melt the chocolate chips in a bowl and heated in a microwave. Check frequently throughout the melting process and stir. Add enough vegetable oil to create a smooth, flowing mixture. Place mixture in heated chocolate fountain and turn on auger. Chocolate will flow through the center post and will coat the domed edges of the tower to create a flowing chocolate fountain.
Use fondue forks to pierce bite-sized pieces of fondue dippers and enjoy! Be sure you have plenty of napkins!
