According to this article, "the experiment – conducted at the University of L’Aquila in Italy and funded by the Lipton Institute of Tea – asked 19 healthy men to take a specific amount of black tea over five periods lasting one week each. Participants were instructed to avoid naturally flavonoid-rich foods and beverages which would affect results."
Results showed improvement in the participants' heart condition; "Blood vessel reactivity increased while both blood pressure and arterial stiffness decreased. Such activity is consistent with a healthy heart."
The study's main investigator, Claudio Ferri, said that “maintaining vascular function with drinking even a single cup of black tea suggests that black tea may help maintain cardiovascular function in common tea drinkers,”
