La Chandeleur is celebrated in France with ... crepes ! And the tradition is to hold a coin in your one and the crêpe pan in the other as you flip the crêpe into the air. And if you manage to catch the crêpe in the pan - and with a little training you usually do - you and your family will be prosperous for the rest of the year.
My version of la Chandeleur ? Home made crepes, some dulce de leche from Punta del Este, Uruguay, a delicious and sweet milk preserve (my favorite and only brand is La Pataia) ... and Champagne! (what else?)
