To Fight Arthritis, Choose Green

According to an About.com Arthritis blog, "animal studies have shown that green tea significantly reduced the severity of arthritis." The blog explains that "green tea [...causes] changes in arthritis-related immune responses. For example, [it] suppresses cytokine IL-17 and antibodies to Bhsp65 - and it increases cytokine IL-10."

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis but, while effective, are also associated with adverse events. Because of that, "researchers suggest that green tea [...] be taken seriously as a dietary treatment for rheumatoid arthritis when used together with conventional arthritis treatments."
