In my endeavor to learn to cook in France, cooking magazines have been my constant companion. In the 1990s, I subscribed to Cuisine Actuelle, Guide Cuisine and Cuisine Gourmande. These pleasant, mid-market titles provided me with countless recipes and a great deal of useful information about French food products and ingredients. After having amassed around 200 issues, space and time constraints led me to cancel my subscriptions, but I still buy them occasionally at the newsstand.
In later years, I turned to more upmarket titles such as Elle à Table and Saveurs, and recently more and more of my recipes come from Internet sites.
Since one of the objectives of this blog is to answer the question of what French people really cook and eat, I plan to devote some time to the contents of these different French cooking magazines and sites -- because I suppose somebody out there must be cooking all their recipes! So look for Revue de Presse, coming soon on this blog.
