I'm trying to play a little catch up lately. I received these samples from Mighty Leaf last month and hadn't gotten around to reviewing them. So I decided to give you two reviews today: an herbal infusion and a green tea.
Organic Detox Infusion - Whole lea tea bag, herbal
Description: This herbal blend includes peppermint, burdock root, dandelion root, licorice root, red clover flower, and basil.
Appearance: These crushed green leaves were enclosed in Mighty Leaf's traditional silken tea pouch.
Scent: This was definitely a very aromatic blend of herbs. The mint was the first to emerge but other scents quickly crowded it out. I kept thinking of oregano. I wonder if that was partly the dandelion root, which I have been told has a peppery quality when on its own.
Brew: 5 minutes at 212 degrees yielded a honey amber colored liquor.
Taste: The mint definitely hit first but there was a very interesting roundness to the flavor. It was an extremely unusual tisane. Very savory. I kept fixating on what I would pair this with for food and decided there was nothing that I could imagine drinking it with. It was definitely a stand alone cup for me. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try it, but I'm not sure I could drink a lot of it. Worth a try if you are ready for something different.
Organic Green Dragon - Whole lea tea bag, green tea
Description: This tea is a China green, thus the leaves are pan-fired. It is a Dragonwell tea, from China's Zhejiang region. (You can see my past post about the history of the name Dragonwell here.)
Scent: This green had a grassy, but sweet aroma. It reminded me of fresh hay.
Brew: 3 minutes at 180 degrees resulted in a yellow hued brew
Taste: This was a very smooth green tea with a nice flavor. It struck me that the flavor dissipated very quickly from my taste buds. I like Dragonwell tea quite a bit and I thought this was a well executed tea bag version. Dragonwell is a great green tea to share with people who think they don't like green tea. It is a bit more mellow and less shocking to novices than some of the other greens!
I noticed in preparing for this review that both of these tea pouches are currently on sale at Mighty Leaf. If you wish to support Tea Pages with your purchase, use the banner ad on the side of this blog.
