Peace at the End of the Day

Quiet calmness surrounds the neighborhood and carries along the highway down the way that meanders through the dryland wheat fields. Last autumn the fields were prepared and planted with seed for winter wheat. It sprouted and grew in the autumn to about two inches tall, and then waited safely under show and rain until the spring sunshine warmed it up and helped it grow again. A beautiful haze of green covers the fields early in the spring before anything else sprouts new growth. Now nearly a foot tall, the green wheat grasses wave in the breeze. It won't be long until my husband says "it's turning golden; autumn will soon be here". He always rushes the season! Never fear, the wheat doesn't turn golden until August.
