February Traditions

Last February 2 was la Chandeleur in France. La Chandeleuer or candlemas is a catholic celebration commemorating the purification of Mary and the introduction of Jesus.
La Chandeleur is celebrated in France with ... crepes ! And the tradition is to hold a coin in your one and the crêpe pan in the other as you flip the crêpe into the air. And if you manage to catch the crêpe in the pan - and with a little training you usually do - you and your family will be prosperous for the rest of the year.
My version of la Chandeleur ? Home made crepes, some dulce de leche from Punta del Este, Uruguay, a delicious and sweet milk preserve (my favorite and only brand is La Pataia) ... and Champagne! (what else?)But February is rich in traditions and Carnival is usuallly in February too. Brazil has a most celebrated Carnival, but so do New Orleans, Nice, and beautiful beautiful Venice! Finally, let's not forget in February Valentine's day, mainly celebrated in the US ... oh, have a look again at our luxurius menu!
