I'm back and ready to do some work! I have at least one tea review to post today. (I have two but I'm not sure I'll get them both done today.) I also have many, many notes from the book I reviewed yesterday (Tea: The Drink that Changed the World by Laura C. Martin) to add to the website. I also wanted to do some blog updates on topics I've covered previously. We'll see how far I get. One thing at a time.
Anyone mind if I put in an unrelated aside? I thought not. :)
There's a new project I've become involved with recently. It's an effort to build a "barrier-free playground" (fully accessible for kids of all abilities) in our community. The project is being spearheaded by an acquaintance of mine whose 5 month old son recently passed away. The playground is being built in his memory. You can see more info about it at www.westford.com/ronansplayground. I'm working on some of the grantwriting and fundraising. I would love feedback from any of you who might have been involved in similar efforts in your communities.
Now, back to the tea. Today's tea is Lemon Fresh, a scented green tea from Licorice and Sloe of Newburyport, MA. The leaves are a deep green suggesting a Japanese sencha (steamed leaves versus pan-fired Chinese green leaves). The tea is combined with pieces of lemon peel. The tea brews to a light green liquor. There is a lovely vegetal scent with a touch of citrus. There is a nice tartness to the tea but it is not pucker-inducing or candy-like. There is a long, yet pleasant aftertaste. The tea had nice body and smoothness. While I'm not raving, it was a nice tea. Somehow I expected a bit more lemon flavor. However, this level of lemon flavor kept the green tea taste coming through.
Tea: Lemon Fresh
Source: Licorice and Sloe
Type: Scented green tea
Brewing details: 1 1/2 tsp at 180 degrees for 3 minutes
Comment: A nice basic scented green. Licorice & Sloe continues to provide solid quality and variety.
