Mid-month Meal Inspiration: May 2007

If your weather is anything like ours and May is looking like early March, you may need some Mid-month Meal Inspiration.

For this exciting new food blogging event, there has been one participant -- guess who! But I'll just pay that never no mind and do a better job publicizing it for June.

Also, by reading this post, you may get a better idea of what I had in mind: especially spiffy-looking yet simple recipes that have been posted in the first part of the month on various blogs.

For May 2007, Cuisine Quotidienne has bookmarked and hopes to try out:

A Smashing Starter: PLT Puff Pastry from Kitchen Unplugged. Gattina writes her colorful cooking blog from New Jersey and loves coffee and champagne -- so we've got at least two things in common. Three actually, because it sounds like she's an expat too.

A Simple Supper: Summer Tart with Roasted Vegetables from Jann, the Travelling Food Lady. Roasting vegetables sometimes seems a little complicated for a casual meal, but Jann definitely has a useful trick up her sleeve for the veggie preparation in this recipe.

A Mouthwatering Main Course: Bucatini with Shrimp and Basil from Kirsten's Home Cooking Adventures. I hate to have to tell Kirsten that given my shopping habits, her recipe may get made with spaghetti -- but I'm sure it will be great anyway.

A Dreamy Dessert: Strawberry Shortcake with Meyer Lemon Cream from Dine and Dish. Kristen seems to make great desserts and takes darn nice pictures of them too. Chocolate lovers click here for proof.

A miscellaneous very nice thing: Cilantro Pesto from Talk of Tomatoes. I prefer cilantro to basil -- to just about any herb, for that matter -- so here is this month's "must-make" recipe for me. Janelle is from Seattle, so she's a Pacific Nortwesterner, which is already a point in her favor in my book!

Part of the fun of this mini-event has been taking a closer look at some of the blogs I skim over and finding out more about their authors.

If you try out any of these recipes, let the blogger -- and me -- know! And enjoy cooking for the rest of May...
